Value For Money Toolkit
About
The Value for Money Toolkit was originally developed by Somerset County Council, on behalf of the Society of County Treasurers, which used it to transform the quality of their services.
In 2009, responsibility for the toolkit was passed to CIPFA, ensuring that the model remains within the public sector, but that the delivery burden does not fall upon local authorities.
It brings together a range of performance indicators, along with financial information to help identify areas where efficiencies can best be made.
The toolkit is steered by experts from local government to grow this service into a powerful tool for understanding and improving the way services are performing. The benefits include:
- It gives you a powerful, yet simple to understand, visualisation of all services on the same scale.
- At a glance, you can see how your services are performing as compared to peers across a range of comparator groups.
- The data used to drive the toolkit is either readily accessible, or easy to collate.
- Indicators can be 'weighted' or excluded to allow for your individual circumstances or priorities.
Most importantly, the VfM toolkit is available in September, in time to help you with your budget planning process. For more details, contact vfmtoolkit@cipfa.org.uk
